YEAR_IN_REVIREW_AR_INT-V2_.jpg

The first three quarters of the 2019-2020 fiscal year were filled with many new exciting developments at Cota. Once again, we challenged ourselves to be creative in trying to design and implement innovative service solutions for people in need within our community. For example, a Mobile Crisis Intervention Team (MCIT) Follow-Up Service pilot initiative in collaboration with North York General Hospital.

Throughout the year Cota also contributed to the planning that is underway to significantly transform and improve health service delivery through the creation of Ontario Health Teams.

In the final quarter, we began to respond and adapt to the emergence of COVID -19. This saw the introduction of internal measures to enable the continuance of our services in ways that ensure the safety of both our service users and our service providers. Cota’s Incident Command Team has done a fantastic job of implementing new safety protocols, coordinating the acquisition and distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ensuring adherence to infection prevention and control practices, orchestrating necessary staff redeployments to maintain on-site support services, while ensuring that non-site-based teams have access to the necessary equipment to provide virtual care to our clients.

We are very fortunate to have had a strong foundation of trust and dedication within our “Cota family” upon which to build and sustain our response to these unprecedented times. In recent years we have worked hard to invest in our staff and to do our best to recognize their tremendous contributions. We have adopted Aon Hewitt’s Employee Engagement Model and survey process to gauge how we are doing on this front and to inform the identification of areas for further improvement. In September 2019, our resulting total engagement score was 70 (a three-point increase over our 2017 result of 67 and above industry standards).

It is truly evident that we have a very engaged and dedicated team at Cota. In recent months everyone has worked together to rise and meet the challenges presented by COVID-19. Collectively the “Cota family” has done a tremendous job of adapting, supporting each other and working collaboratively with other organizations to meet the needs of the people we support.

On behalf of the Board of Directors we would like to like to extend our sincere gratitude to our frontline service providers, students, volunteers, the Cota leadership team and to our many partners for another very successful year and for your ongoing efforts as we continue to contend with COVID-19.

Together, we can do this!

The success of this partnership relies upon the strengths that each organization brings to it. We recognize that both SCHC and Cota have their own areas of expertise and experience as well services to offer. It is because of our mutual respect for one another that we are able to provide a better, more holistic service for our clients together than we could on our own

Upholding best practices and high-quality service delivery starts with a client-centred approach. For Cota, this means having clients take part in (1) providing input in program development, (2) determining their own needs and recovery goals, and (2) providing feedback about their experience.
